Every year on September 24th, sisters, associates, companions, donors, staff, students, and all in the global Mercy family are invited to celebrate the opening of the first House of Mercy, on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland, in 1827. We call this celebration Mercy Day. It is a global celebration of what makes us Mercy. Throughout our international school system, Mercy Day is celebrated with liturgies, prayer, volunteer opportunities, parties and more.
The following resources are available to help your school community celebrate Mercy Day!
- Sister Carolyn McWatters, RSM, has written a short prayer for Mercy Day – available here. The prayer is available in English and Spanish.
- The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas recently announced their theme for Mercy Day 2023: “Walking with Mercy.” Mercy schools are welcome to incorporate this theme into their Mercy Day planning. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive a copy of the logo.
