What is Ours To Do? Living Our Call as Mercy Educators in Divided Times
In a world marked by increasing complexity and division, the vocation of Mercy education calls us to form students who think critically, respond compassionately, and act with courage. Rooted in the Mercy charism and our Catholic tradition, our schools accompany young people as they learn to engage the world with empathy, integrity, and hope.
What Is Ours To Do? offers five guiding principles drawn from Catholic Social Teaching, the Core Values of Mercy Education, and the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy. Developed by Mercy educators from across our system, this resource supports leaders, faculty, and boards in navigating challenging conversations with clarity, respect, and fidelity to our mission.
Although the booklet was written from a U.S. perspective, our Mercy Education community spans many cultures and countries. We encourage all schools—both within the United States and around the world—to adapt the scenarios and develop their own examples so this resource speaks to the realities, questions, and needs of their local contexts.
We are grateful for all you do to bring Mercy to life each day. May this resource strengthen your work and support your ongoing discernment of what is ours to do, together.
