In October 2021, the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Children’s Hospital Association declared a “national emergency in child and adolescent mental health” that is inextricably tied “to the stress brought on by COVID-19 and the ongoing struggle for racial justice.” They stated, “We are caring for young people with soaring rates of depression, anxiety, trauma, loneliness, and suicidality that will have lasting impacts on them, their families, and their communities” (AAP-AACAP-CHA statement).
As a resource for our schools, Mercy Education will offer a virtual training from Soul Shop on faith-based suicide prevention on April 7, 2022, 11 am – 12:30 pm ET. The training is suitable for all roles within our schools. We ask administrators to encourage attendance among their administrative teams, faculty and staff. The training will empower participants to be a part of the solution by recognizing warning signs and taking steps to reduce risk. Interpretation in Spanish will be offered. A recording of the session will be made available following the event.
