Celebrate Catholic Sisters Week: March 8-14
Catholic Sisters Week is an annual celebration from March 8-14 that honors the lives and ministries of religious sisters around the world. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the Sisters of Mercy whose lives and service have made an impact in your school community. They carry forward the Mercy mission, inspiring lay leaders and students alike to embrace and strengthen the charism, ensuring that Mercy flourishes now and for generations to come.
Ways to Celebrate
Looking for ideas? Here are some meaningful ways your school can participate:
- Host a Thank-You Event – Organize a special gathering, such as a prayer service, breakfast, or assembly, to express gratitude to sisters in your school and/or local area.
- Student Letters and Artwork – Invite students to write letters, create artwork, or make small gifts to show their appreciation.
- Share Their Stories – Highlight the impact of sisters in your school’s history and daily life through social media, school newsletters and/or morning announcements.
- Service in Their Honor – Encourage students to take part in a service project inspired by the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy.
- Invite a Sister to Speak – Arrange for a Sister of Mercy to share her vocation story and ministry with students.
- Celebrate on Social Media – Post photos, quotes, or short videos thanking sisters, using #CatholicSistersWeek.
Throughout the week, look for special social media posts from Mercy Education highlighting the ways our schools honor, serve, and recognize our beloved Sisters of Mercy!
