The English and Social Studies Curriculum Guides for the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concerns offer…
2026 Mercy Day Toolkit
Every year on September 24th, the global Mercy family—sisters, associates, companions, donors, staff, students, and more—comes together to celebrate Mercy Day, marking the 1827 opening of the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland.
This year’s Mercy Day theme, Rooted in Mercy, invites our school communities to reflect on the deep roots that nourish and sustain the Mercy tradition across generations.
Just as a rose blooms thanks to the strength drawn from its roots, Mercy has blossomed from the vision and courage bequeathed to us by Catherine McAuley. Rooted deeply in faith and compassion, Catherine responded boldly to the needs of her time, especially for women, children, and those experiencing poverty or enduring suffering. The seeds she planted continued to spread across the world as the Sisters of Mercy carried her mission into new communities and new generations.
The Mercy Day 2026 Toolkit includes:
- Logo files
- Scripture references
- Suggested service experiences
- Activities and classroom resources for all grade levels
Mercy schools are encouraged to coordinate a project, prayer service, or celebration inspired by this year’s theme. Whether your community is large or small, there are many ways to bring this message to life.
All are welcome to use the toolkit and engage with the theme in ways that speak to your local context. For questions or to share your Mercy Day plans, contact Lauren Albright.
