English & Social Studies Curriculum Guides for the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concerns

The English and Social Studies Curriculum Guides for the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concerns offers educators a comprehensive set of resources for teaching about women, nonviolence, immigration, racism, and Earth through the lens of Mercy’s mission and Catholic social teaching. Developed in 2019, these guides provide definitions, essential questions, recommended topics, curated resources, and sample lesson plans designed to help teachers deepen students’ understanding of social justice issues and inspire action rooted in the Mercy charism. An executive summary and instructions for use accompany the five guides to support integration across grade levels, units, and teaching styles. These living documents are meant to evolve with time and encourage educators to adapt, expand, and reimagine how the Critical Concerns come alive in Mercy classrooms today.
