Canonization and Catherine McAuley
Our own Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, is on a journey to canonization – the process of being named a saint of the Catholic Church.
Being declared a saint is a long, serious and complicated process. Catherine has been named Venerable, signifying that she has progressed through two of the four major steps. Currently her cause for canonization is in the middle of step three. A medical miracle – the healing of a baby in 2016 – has been identified, rigorously studied by a Diocesan Tribunal and is now awaiting investigation at the Vatican.
We encourage you to talk about Catherine’s canonization cause within your school communities.
