Celebrating Black History Month

The month of February marks the celebration of Black History Month in the United States. The Center for Racial Justice in Education reminds us, “the histories, stories, and voices of Black people should be centered, honored, and uplifted in school curricula every day.” We invite you to spend time with their resource list, Black History Month Resource Guide for Educators and Families, which offers excellent resources for year-round education on Black history and experience.

The theme for Black History Month 2023 is Black Resistance. The Sisters of Mercy have published Celebrating Black Resistance with Mercy, a new collection of photos that speak to the Critical Concern of Racism and the sisters’ efforts to become an anti-racist community. This resource is excellent for classroom use as well as personal and/or group reflection. This resource will continue to grow, so please send contributions of Mercy-inspired Black Resistance to Cathy Walsh.
