MERCY EDUCATION SYSTEM OF THE AMERICAS: COVENANT

Covenant: a shared agreement to be guided by the mission and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and by the charism, core values, mission and tradition of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. To articulate the responsibilities of each partner in this relational covenant, a document outlines what each partner promises. It names Sisters of Mercy, governing boards, administrators, all in the school community, as the embodiment of the relationship. The covenant documents includes the parameters for accountability structures. It places accountability within the context of mission and ministry.

The covenant names those powers delegated to the Board of Directors of the Mercy Education System of the Americas by the Institute Leadership Team. These powers will be named and will be reflected in the bylaws of sponsored educational ministries.

The document will be uniquely drafted for education ministries with cosponsored relationships between the Sisters of Mercy and another congregation or (arch) diocese recognizing a shared governance structure. These powers are named and reflected in the bylaws of cosponsored educational ministries.

The document will be uniquely drafted for education ministries with an affiliate relationship to the system a ministry for whom the Public Juridic Person is an (arch) diocese, seeking affiliation with the system, having no formal governance relationship to the system, but sharing a commitment to fidelity to the charism, core values, mission and tradition of the Sisters of Mercy of theAmericas.

Of note: Any reserved powers and the composition and relationship of a board for cosponsored and/or advisory council or country designated structure for international education ministries will be appropriate to the governance relationship and will be compatible with the country law and cosponsored relationship.
